    Deja Marshall was an all-state player in high school, was the Region X Conference Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American last season as a college player, yet she frequently had to pick herself up off the floor, had trouble driving to the hoop and had to settle for jump shots a lot this summer. Of course, she was playing against an offensive lineman.

  • Williams scores TD in App State bowl victory

    Malik Williams put a big exclamation point on 2017 football season for Appalachian State and on his freshman season.

    Williams, a Chester High graduate, is now a wide receiver for the Mountaineers. On Saturday, the team faced off against Toledo in the Dollar General Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Leading 27-0 and looking to put the game away early in the fourth quarter, Appalachian State turned to Williams, who scored on a three-yard touchdown run to cap a seven-play, 55-yard scoring drive. His score would prove to be the last of the game and of the season for the Mountaineers.

    Marshall, a Chester High graduate who is now in her second year at Spartanburg Methodist College, is actually bettering the fantastic numbers she put up last year. So far, through eight games, Marshall is averaging 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.4 steals a game through eight games for the 5-3 SMC women’s basketball team.

  • Mike Hill on a roll at Iowa Western

    Mike Hill has always been reputed to have great hands. That must be true, since he didn’t even need all 10 fingers for a near school record performance recently.

    Hill, a 2017 Lewisville High graduate, is now playing wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College. People in this part of the country may not know much about the school, but Iowa Western has become one of the nation’s preeminent junior college football programs. The Reivers are currently 7-1 and ranked number one in the country and Hill is a big reason why.
