• LETTER TO THE EDITOR:Former reporter praises Jim Bruce

    To the Editor:

Many words will be exchanged in the coming days, as people share their stories about Jim Bruce. I can only echo, and poorly at that, those sentiments when I say that Jim was a good and honorable man who deserved the love and respect of everyone in Chester County and beyond.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR:Chester Regional praised for service

    To the Editor:

My mother and I were both patients at Chester Regional Medical Center in January.

I want to thank each and every one involved in our care. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with care and concern.

I can't even begin to name everyone. You know who you are. I appreciate you all.

We are blessed to have such a great hospital with a wonderful, caring staff. Thank you for being here in Chester.

    Glenda Owens

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR:Obama is good choice for president

    To the Editor:

There has been a lot of talk about whether Obama has the experience to be a true leader, and I offer the following.

Most commentators have agreed that Hillary has run a terrible campaign. She has gotten bad advice from her advisors.

But she picked those advisors and ultimately, she decides what to say. On the other side, these same commentators marvel at the split-second timing of Obama's campaign. Everything seems to flow flawlessly.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Lando history center needs repair

    To the Editor:

We need your help and we would like to invite you to come for a visit if you haven't already. We have converted the Old Company Store into a history center dedicated to preserve the history of Lando and Manetta Mills and most importantly, the mill village way of life.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Says former Councilman was unique

    To the Editor:

The first time I met Jim Bruce, I was covering my first meeting as the new editor of The News & Reporter. I don't remember the nature of the story, but I only knew Jim by name -- I hadn't yet seen him in the flesh, or heard that voice. At the time, he was looking forward to his upcoming tenure on county council, having won an election earlier that year. I had been in town a week, at the most, feeling my way through Chester County politics.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Says animal lovers prove his point

    To the Editor:

I would like to thank Mrs. Reimer and Ms. Small from Lancaster and John Goodwin from the Humane Society of the United States for their replies to my opinion letter. Thank you for proving my point that people are personifying animals with human emotions and souls that they don't have. Thank you for proving that rash emotions are superseding common sense and empathy for your fellow MAN in regard for laws and accompanying penalties.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: City staff thanked by local residents

This note is to thank Mike Brown, Linda Herron and all the rest of the staff for such a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Everything was so good and we all enjoyed it.

Thanks again for bringing a little sunshine into our lives.

Carolyn Turner and the Saluda Street Apartments folks

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Says cockfighting bill is not extreme

    To the Editor:

I was sorry to read such misinformation about Rep. Murrell Smith and Sen. John Hawkins' legislation (H. 4021/ S. 1041) to make cockfighting a felony in South Carolina. (Letters to the editor, Feb. 15).

Contrary to what the pro-cockfighting factions in South Carolina claim, Rep. Smith's and Sen. Hawkins' legislation is far from extreme. It simply seeks to bring South Carolina in line with the 35 other states that have made cockfighting a felony.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Says cockfighting is a misdemeanor only

This is directed to every South Carolinian and Ameri-can from every walk of life. Whether a school teacher, housewife, public official, politician, CEO, animal rights activist, animal fighting proponent, retiree, vegetarian, meat lover, city slicker or country bumpkin'.

I am disgusted by all the hoop-lah being stirred up by the cockfighting raid in York County on Super Bowl Sunday. All the preaching that ensued about toughening the law because of all the "horror, cruelty and bad things" that supposedly goes on during cockfights.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Family to hold special service

    To the Editor:

On Feb. 7, 2007, the Lord picked a perfect rose to put in his rose bed. Her name was Amanda. We loved her so and always will. She was our sunshine on a rainy day.

That day was a day that we received a blow to our hearts that will never mend or ever leave our hearts.

Amanda took her walk with Jesus that night more of a woman than any of us. Amanda was the strength in our heart and soul.
