  • Chester woman files report of kidnapping and assault

    A Chester mother filed a police report with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office telling them she and her son were held hostage and their lives were threatened during an hour-long ordeal on March 11. The woman told police that while in a vehicle that departed from Rock Hill, she was assaulted by a Winnsboro man, the report said. According to the woman's report, the ordeal continued as the trio traveled to and arrived inWinnsboro. The woman said the man would not allow her and her son to get out of the vehicle.

  • A lesson in valor

    Chester County Sheriff's Deputy David Ford has never been trained in water rescue. In fact, he says there's almost nothing he has done in the past that prepared him to dive into a lake and pull a woman to safety last February.
    That's probably why he was recently honored for that act with a South Carolina Sheriff's Association Medal of Valor.

  • Arrest made in home invasion

    An arrest has been made in an Edgemoor home invasion.
    On Monday, Chester County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Dye Rd. in the Edgemoor area of Chester County in reference to a burglary in progress. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the victim had been assaulted by a white male
    wearing a mask dressed in all black. The victim says she opened her garage door and walked out when she was attacked by the man. The subject forced her to the ground for a short period of time and let her go. The victim left running up the street looking for help

  • Man living in tent charged with larceny, drug possession

    A Michigan man who was apparently living in a tent was arrested by the Chester County Sheriff's Department and charged with various burglary charges and a count for marijuana possession.
    According to a release from Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith, deputies responded last week to a burglary on Sherwood Circle. The victim reported that someone had kicked in his back door, entered his home and stolen jewelry, money and some video games. Detectives canvassed the area and talked to people in the community to get a description of the suspect.

  • UPDATED:Hinson arrested on multiple charges

    Larry Lamont Hinson, 59, of 5451 Old Winnsboro Road, Great Falls, was arrested Tuesday night by the Chester County Sheriff's Office.
    Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith said four search warrants were executed simultaneously Tuesday at different properties Hinson owns or has access to. Three of the properties are in the Great Falls area and the fourth is in Albermarle, N.C., Smith said.
    Smith said officers were searching for jewelry Hinson had reported as stolen.  

  • Man charged with sex act, bond denied

    Bond for a 19-year-old man charged with criminal acts involving a child has been denied.

  • Police investigating fake Rolex sales

    It should go without saying, but if someone tries to sell you a Rolex watch on the street, it's probably not real.
    A release from the City of Chester Police Department says that counterfeit Rolexes are being sold in Chester.
    According to the release, the police department was contacted by Rolex USA Inc. in September of last year. The department then began a joint investigation into the sale of counterfeit Rolex watches. The department has worked with Rolex USA, the S.C. Secretary of State Office, SLED and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) on the case.
