  • Sheriff's Office makes drug arrests

    The Chester County Sheriff's Office made two drug arrests recently, recovering marijuana, crack cocaine and heroin in the process.
    On March 23, the Chester County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Violent Crime Unit arrested William Jeremy Russell, who had 4.9 grams of heroin packed in eight balloons. Russell was arrested at 3062 Lancaster Highway in Richburg. Agents also seized $698 in cash, a cell phone and a silver 2000 Toyota 4 Runner.

  • Arrests made in drive-by shooting

    City of Chester Police Chief Andre' Williams thinks a series of shootings that took place over the weekend and on Monday may be gang-related.
    Two arrests were made Monday afternoon shortly after an attempted drive-by shooting occurred on Oak Street.

  • Chester woman files report of kidnapping and assault

    A Chester mother filed a police report with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office telling them she and her son were held hostage and their lives were threatened during an hour-long ordeal on March 11. The woman told police that while in a vehicle that departed from Rock Hill, she was assaulted by a Winnsboro man, the report said. According to the woman's report, the ordeal continued as the trio traveled to and arrived inWinnsboro. The woman said the man would not allow her and her son to get out of the vehicle.

  • A lesson in valor

    Chester County Sheriff's Deputy David Ford has never been trained in water rescue. In fact, he says there's almost nothing he has done in the past that prepared him to dive into a lake and pull a woman to safety last February.
    That's probably why he was recently honored for that act with a South Carolina Sheriff's Association Medal of Valor.

    An arrest has been made in an Edgemoor home invasion.
    On Monday, Chester County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Dye Rd. in the Edgemoor area of Chester County in reference to a burglary in progress. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the victim had been assaulted by a white male
    wearing a mask dressed in all black. The victim says she opened her garage door and walked out when she was attacked by the man. The subject forced her to the ground for a short period of time and let her go. The victim left running up the street looking for help

  • Man living in tent charged with larceny, drug possession

    A Michigan man who was apparently living in a tent was arrested by the Chester County Sheriff's Department and charged with various burglary charges and a count for marijuana possession.
    According to a release from Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith, deputies responded last week to a burglary on Sherwood Circle. The victim reported that someone had kicked in his back door, entered his home and stolen jewelry, money and some video games. Detectives canvassed the area and talked to people in the community to get a description of the suspect.
