  • Bowling ball toss leads to attempted murder charge

    An argument during a bowling game ended with a Chester man arrested and charged with attempted murder.
    An incident report from the York County Sheriff's Office said Omar Sheree Stevenson, 31, of 508 Roundtree Circle, Chester, was bowling with a female at Strikers Family Sports Center, 124 N. Anderson Road, Rock Hill between 10:45 and 10:56 p.m. Sunday, when the two began arguing because the woman had not allowed Stevenson to buy drinks for her.

  • Deputy injured at parade

    A Chester County Sheriff's Deputy was injured following the Lowrys Christmas Parade on Saturday when he was struck by a truck.

  • DUI holiday blitz in the offing

    In the week leading up to Christmas and continuing through New Year’s Day, state and local law enforcement agencies will step up efforts to reduce drunk driving in South Carolina.

    The enforcement blitz – the Christmas/New Year’s Sober or Slammer! DUI crackdown campaign – is spearheaded by the SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) and runs December 16 through January 2, 2012. The goal is to curb the number of crashes and fatalities caused by motorists driving while impaired during the holiday season.

  • Police continue to focus on Great Falls murder

    Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith wants to see an arrest made.
    Also a resident of the Great Falls area, Smith is somewhat frustrated authorities have not been able to charge anyone in the murder of Alfreda Wertz Hinson of Great Falls.
    Hinson, 57, was found murdered in her 5451 Old Winnsboro Road home at 8:35 p.m. Nov. 28 after a neighbor heard a loud noise and alerted police.

  • Police following leads in Great Falls murder

    A murder in Great Falls Monday night has the community in a state of unrest.
    Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith said 57-year-old Alfreda Wertz Hinson was found murdered in her home at 5451 Old Winnsboro Road after a neighbor heard a loud noise at the house and alerted police.
    Smith said the Chester County Sheriff's Office, the Chester County Coroner's Office and the S.C. Law Enforcement Division are investigating the murder.
    Smith said the investigation is going slow.

  • Subject that fled from police in September arrested

    The Chester City Police Department has made an arrest in a case from September.
    On November 24, Lerun Hall was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana, failure to stop on police command, failure to stop for a blue light and driving under suspension. His alleged offenses actually occurred on September 16, but police say he fled the scene. New Police Chief Andre' Williams was in the process, at the time, of instituting a policy of not carrying out police chases in the city limits.

  • Fire marshall among two arrested for pointing and presenting firearms

    Chester Fire Marshal and interim city building inspector James Aaron "Jamie" Leonard, was one of two men arrested last week on charges of pointing and presenting a firearm.

  • Five from Chester sentenced on drug charges

    United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated today that Emmett Douglas, 28, Tracey Douglas, 27, Enrico Hicks, 31, Sintigo Caldwell, 23 and Emmett Jones, 30, all from the Chester area were sentenced as a result of pleading guilty in federal court to their involvement with distributing crack cocaine in Chester, SC.
