  • Officer dismissed after arrest

    A Chester County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested on a drug charge.
    According to an arrest warrant, Wendy Jean Pressley, 32, was charged with "drugs/unlawful prescription drugs, blank prescription, first offense." The warrant says Pressley "did unlawfully, knowingly and willfully obtain or attempt to obtain an unauthorized quantity of a controlled substance by fraudulent means." The warrant says she obtained benzphetamine, a Schedule III controlled substance, from a local doctor, then went to a pharmacy to fill the prescription again.

  • City will not release requested information

    The City of Chester is refusing a request made by the News & Reporter to release a police document.
    On Tuesday, rumors were circulating throughout Chester that Police Chief Andre' Williams had filed some sort of police report against a member of Chester City Council. The circumstances surrounding the reasons for the report's filing were not immediately clear.

  • Robbery attempt ends in gunfire

    A 17-year-old Beaver Street male attempting to rob another person was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte Sunday night after suffering a gunshot wound to his head.
    According to a City of Chester Police Department report, officers were dispatched between 9:23 and 9:24 p.m. to Mill Street near the park in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a teen sitting on the ground at the intersection of Mill and Hardin Graham Streets. He appeared to be bleeding from his head.

  • White's bond set at $40K

    Antwan Terrill White, who is accused of murdering a man that allegedly raped one of his family members, had a $40,000 bond set for his release by Judge Brooks Goldsmith on Tuesday.

  • Chester man facing life sentence on drug conviction

    A Chester man is facing a life sentence after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine on Tuesday.
    United States Attorney Bill Nettles announced that a jury found Earl Glenn, Jr., 30, guilty in federal court in Columbia. Nettles stated that based on the substantial drug weight found by the jury and Glenn’s multiple prior drug convictions, Glenn is facing a mandatory life sentence as a result of his conviction.

  • Three of four men facing attempted murder charges denied bond

    Citing ongoing tensions between rival groups in Union County, a circuit judge on Thursday denied bond for three of four Chester men accused in a shooting incident that began at a pool hall.
    Judge William Nettles set a $48,000 bond for 22-year-old Cedric Jamarius Brown of 5681 Woods Ferry Road. Brown’s bond conditions include a 6 p.m. curfew and he must come to Union County only for court or to work at his Dollar General Distribution Center job.

  • Man charged with sexual assault

    The Chester County Sheriff's Office has arrested 53-year-old Charlie James Johnson of 563 Roundtree Circle, Chester and charged him with criminal sexual conduct third degree in connection with an alleged rape of a woman he knew on May 22.
    According to the police report, a woman told police that she woke up and found Johnson behind her and he was sexually assaulting her. She told police that she pushed Johnson out of the bed and told him that he was not going to commit the act again.

  • Evans arrested on multiple drug charges

    A Mill Street man was arrested last week and now faces multiple drug charges.
    According to a release from Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith, on August 7, deputies of the Chester County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Violent Crimes Unit, having already purchased crack cocaine from James Leonard Evans, executed a search warrant of his residence on Mill Street. During the search, deputies recovered 0.8 ounces of crack cocaine, 4.5 grams of marijuana, a razor blade with crack cocaine residue on it and $508 in cash.
