A 1996 Freightliner tractor-trailer hauling a load of scrap metal from Union to Darlington overturned Friday morning on Lancaster Highway, causing a traffic delay.

According to Fort Lawn Fire Chief Allen Culp, the truck, heading east on S.C. Highway 9, ran off the road and into the median. His load of scrap metal was dumped into the westbound lane of Highway 9.

The lane was closed as of Friday morning and traffic was diverted down River Road.

The accident caused the truck to leak hydraulic fluid and diesel fuel.
