Malik Williams goes bowling for touchdowns

Malik Williams’s background as a prep quarterback served him well in Appalachian State’s bowl victory on Saturday.

The Mountaineers went 10-2 in the regular season (with one loss being in overtime at Penn State) and earned a slot in the New Orleans Bowl against Middle Tennessee State. Williams, a sophomore wide receiver for Appalachian State, caught one pass for 22 yards in the 45-13 blowout win. On two occasions, though, the Mountaineers ran trick plays that had Williams throwing the ball. As a passer, he was 2-for-2 for 38 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
