By Travis Jenkins

The first week of the News & Reporter’s football picking contest came down to the tie-breaker, but when the dust cleared Landon Hoyle of Chester emerged as the winner.

Hoyle actually finished in a three-way tie for first at 14-6 with Johnson Gore Jr. and Billy Keels, both of Chester. On the tie-breaker, though, the total number of points scored in the Clemson-Texas A&M game, Hoyle was dead on the money with his guess of 54 points. Keels (56) and Gore (48) were both within six points. For his efforts, Hoyle wins the weekly $50 prize.
