Great Falls-Dixie game won't be made up

Friday’s loss to Timmonsville ended Great Falls’ shot at the playoffs, but it also proved to be the final game of 2018 for the Red Devils.

Several weeks ago, Great Falls was to have played a non-region game at Dixie. That happened to be set for Sept. 14, the Friday that Hurricane Florence was to have made landfall on the South Carolina coast. The game was initially moved up a day, but concerns about the team making a long trip in busses with wind speeds increasing led to the contest’s postponement. When the South Carolina High School League extended the season by a week to help impacted teams, the contest was originally set to be made up this coming Friday. However, the game would have had no impact at all on the postseason destination of either team, with Dixie having locked up its region title and Great Falls having been eliminated from post-season consideration last week. With that, Great Falls Athletic Director Jimmy Duncan said the mutual decision was made not to play the game at all. Great Falls will give up its home game with Dixie next year and play in Due West.

Great Falls ends its season at 4-5.
