Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 101 York Street, will celebrate their 175th anniversary during the next two Sundays. On Oct. 14 at 11 a.m., the congregation will re-enact a pageant called “Bethel Church is Born.” The pageant, written by church historian Anne P. Collins, was first performed 25 years ago, when Bethel turned 150 years old. The pageant traces the history of Methodism from circuit riders Francis Asbury and Thomas Coke in 1789 to the present day. Bethel United Methodist Church was begun in 1837 by a small band of seven dedicated people.
