  • In less than 24 hours grills will smoke, fireworks will pop and folks will find so many other ways to celebrate our national day of Independence. July 4 is a special day to celebrate our collective freedoms but the month of July also has some very unique days set aside that many may not be as aware. July is national Hot Dog Month, national Ice Cream Month, national Blueberry Month and national Parks and Recreation Month. Today, July 3, is national “Compliment Your Mirror Day.” According to the Holiday and Insights website, here's how to celebrate.

  • Running 1,200 miles in a month requires months of training, endurance and a great team around you. But mainly, you've just got to have a lot of heart.
    Nels Matson, a high school teacher and wrestling coach, left his home in Bradenton, Fla. on foot last month bound for the Cambodian Embassy in Washington D.C. His trip will bring him to Blackstock Thursday and through Chester County on his way to Rock Hill on Friday.

  • Cooking and eating barbecue is considered by some to be a near-religious experience. With that in mind, there was a tent revival in town on Saturday.
    The annual Hog on the Hill Barbecue Festival drew more than a dozen competitive barbecuers from all over the Carolinas. Teams competed in the "Anything But" contest on Friday, smoked butts for the big contest Saturday and enjoyed the normal fellowship that accompanies the event.
