  • (Reporter's note: Like a journalist at the front lines in a battlefield, I was “embedded” with three teams – Sam Austin's Holy Smokes BBQ, Ronald “Junior” Dorman's Road Kill Cookers and Allen Ramsey's Heavenly Hogs-- for the Hog on the Hill Barbecue Cook-Off. There was considerably less danger, no one was shooting at me and at the end of the assignment, my reward was some pretty good 'cue, but other than that, it was just like being a war correspondent. What follows is my account of that experience.)

Friends and relatives will tell you that was the second most important thing that happened that year. The first, they will tell you, is that Gertrude “Miss Sugar” Wylie was born.

  • Most children dream about what they will become when they grow up.
Dr. Swapna Paladugu, known by many of her patients and staff as “Dr. Pal,” is one of the fortunate children living their childhood dream.
“I loved medicine when I was a child,” Dr. Paladugu said. “I always wanted to be a doctor. I have no regrets and I am so happy in what I'm doing.”
Dr. Paladugu joined Family Nurse Practitioner Julie Bowers at Catawba Family Medicine in Richburg.

  • Tucked away on McAliley Street in Chester is a building most people don't even know is there, a building filled with history. It's called the Chester County Historical Society Museum, and you've probably never been there.
    But you should.
According to Museum Administrator Liz Anderson, there are 2,000 visitors a year to the museum but only a quarter of those visitors are from Chester County. The museum and the Historical Society hope to increase those numbers.

He is Rocky Pollard of Pollard Funeral Home right here in Chester. And, by the way, Rocky is his real given name. His dad's nickname was "Rocks."

  • Borrowing from Christopher Robin’s friend, Tigger, he stated that “every now and then someone amazing comes along.”  In the realm of humans, the very essence of this statement was personified in the form of one of South Carolina’s unsung heroes who was born in 1905 in Rock Hill into a large family. William Mason Chisholm was by no means an ordinary man.
