• The tough get mowing

“Are you going to cut the grass today?” my wife will sometimes ask, looking at the overgrown, shaggy, almost knee-high front yard.

“Can’t,” I’ll respond. “It’s raining. Can’t cut the grass when it’s raining. All that wet grass clogs up the mower.”

  • 2017 CindyMackie Foundation Gala- what a great night!

"I believe in pink. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles." – Audrey Hepburn

  • Armstrong's underwear

Have you ever had a yard sale, but found yourself unable to part with treasured keepsakes? Or, are you a pack rat like me who never wants to throw away anything even if it has no value and it’s been buried out of sight and out of mind in a closet for 10 or so years?

“OK, we can definitely get rid of this ratty old pair of Scooby Doo underwear,” my wife might say.

  • Toddling the streets of Columbia enjoying some alone time

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not." ~ Andre Gide

Over the weekend I had the most exciting time just toddling the streets of downtown Columbia and Five Points, all by myself. I know so many of you think you can never do things alone, but to tell you the truth, I can just look and walk and eat, and if I feel like it, stop in here and there and shop and just enjoy myself, all by myself!

  • I can’t wait for winter and chapped lips
  • A finger-lickin’ page turner

Have you ever seen those cheap, paperback romance novels on bookstore shelves? I’m sure you’ve never actually read one…but the covers usually feature a muscled-up guy’s chest and a somewhat scantily clad woman. You usually don’t see the people from the neck up for some reason. I’m guessing either they do that to allow your imagination to determine what the people look like, or the body models don’t want their mamas seeing them half naked on a book cover.

  • A boar-ing column

I didn’t expect to see anything new as I drove from my house to Dixie High School in Due West, South Carolina on Saturday for a softball game. Why would I, what with the route I took being what one would best describe as “rural?”

  • Weddings at the beach, I just love them...especially this one

Months ago, my girlfriend Page asked me if we could come down to the beach for her wedding, which she was thinking about having in April. Of course I said yes, we most certainly will be there! Just so happens, this past weekend was the wedding, and what a grand time we had!

I'm sharing this story with all of you not only because I love and miss Page desperately and I'm so stoked about how happy she is, but because many of you love and miss Page as well, and so I wanted all of you to enjoy and revel in her pure true happiness also!

  • In defense of the frork
  • April showers bring May Flowers

For the past couple weeks, one of the pastures closest to the house – we call it the maternity ward – has just been full of wild buttercup or bitterweed, as some call it. Yes, it is a weed, but gosh how pretty it is in full bloom in the field.

The other day I was out riding and checking on the young mama cows ready to calve and out there right in the middle of the pasture were three baby calves. All I could see were three tiny black heads peeping up over the yellow blooms and their red tags. It was such a beautiful sight!
