  • Lawsuit filed over special exception for funeral home

    When he voted in favor of a special zoning exception for his family’s business, Chester City Councilman William King told those who deemed his act a conflict of interests to challenge him legally. At least two people have taken him up on that offer.

    Mark Dickinson and Kathryn Dixon are listed as the plaintiffs in a suit against King that seeks a temporary restraining order on final passage of the special exception until it can be determined by a court whether King’s vote did constitute a conflict of interest.

  • Chester police investigate Walmart fire

    Investigators with the Chester Police Department are currently investigating a fire that took place on Saturday behind the Chester Walmart.

    According to a press release from the Chester Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m. to Walmart along with the City of Chester Fire Department. Officers located a huge fire at the rear of the store.

    The fire department responded with a pumper and tanker truck to fight the blaze.

  • Roberts denied bond in Jackson murder

    The man charged with the first homicide of 2017 in Chester County was denied bond on Tuesday.

    The incident took place in the early morning hours of Friday, April 14. Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies found 33-year-old Michael Jackson Jr. dead at the home located at 526 Ballpark Drive at approximately 12:30 a.m. Jackson reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds. Michael Scott Roberts was arrested shortly thereafter on homicide charges.

  • Woman charged with ill treatment of animals

    The Chester Police Department on Tuesday arrested a woman on an arrest warrant stemming from an incident involving ill treatment of animals that took place in May.

    According to a press release from Chester PD, Tamara Neal, 30, was arrested during a checkpoint on an arrest warrant that was taken out in May.

  • Coleman part of suit over nuclear debacle

    Georgetown attorney Ed Bellof Bell Legal Group LLC filed an 11-count class action complaint late Monday against SCANA Corp. and S.C. Electric & Gas for charging approximately 661,000 customers more than $1 billion in electricity charges to pay for two power plants that they abandoned last month.

    One of the other attorneys participating in the filing is Winnsboro attorney and former state Sen. Creighton B. Coleman of Coleman & Tolen LLC. Coleman was the senator for District 17, which includes Chester County.

  • City police make drug arrest

    City of Chester Police officers on Wednesday arrested Ankee Draequon Pendergrass, 22, and charged him with failure to stop on police command, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in proximity of a school or public park, according to a press release form the Chester Police Department.
