South Carolina school districts and individual schools received letter grades of A-F this week based on the federal accountability system of tracking student achievement and improvement for the 2012-13 academic year.
The letter grade system, in its second year, replaces Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), which designated schools by “Met” or “Not Met” for standard performance objectives and is part of the state's requirement for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) better known as “No Child Left Behind.”

An arbitration hearing was held earlier this week for Eureka Mill owners and Chester County officials to determine if the mill owners would be reimbursed a $50,000 bond paid in advance to clean up the former textile mill site. According to Chester County Councilman Alex Oliphant, the following ruling was made.

“Danny Crowe, the arbitrator in the Eureka saga ruled that Larry Ramsey has 45 days to pay all DHEC fines and clean the site up to the county’s specifications or forfeit the $ 50,000 bond,” he said.
