Studio 21, a full service salon offering hair cuts, manicures, pedicures and specializing in foils and acrylic nails, is located at 2606 Catawba River Road in Fort Lawn. This business is jointly owned by Wanda Brooks, Heather Cecil and Rose Saucier (pronounced, so-shay). The three women opened their business in Fort Lawn in October and say they did so because they enjoy making others happy.
“We got into this business because of the people,” Cecil said. “We like making people feel good.”
Saucier fervently agreed.
“When you look good, you feel good,” she said. “It's a bubbly shop. We all have a good attitude and personality.”
Brooks added, “If you don't feel good coming in, you'll feel good going out!”
The women share more than 50 years combined career experience in their various specialties. Cecil, with seven years career experience, specializes in “cuts and color,” she said.
“I just truly love what I do. I'm really passionate about it,” Cecil said. “I couldn't imagine doing anything else.”
Brooks, who has enjoyed a 24-year career, specializes in acrylic nails and pedicures. As a nail instructor, she's traveled throughout the U.S. and world wide, she said.
“I've worked all my life,” Brooks said. “I've always wanted to do this. I was licensed in 1989 and then taught several years but I decided I wanted to be behind the chair and meet new people.”
Saucier, who began her career in cosmetology in 1984, later earned her nail license and finally crossed over as a master barber, she said. Her present title is Master Hair Care Specialist.
The success of Studio 21 comes not only from the women's individual talents but their ability to learn from each other.
“We sort of feed off each other and learn from each other,” Cecil said.
Saucier agreed, saying having Cecil as a younger partner in this business has taught her and Brooks new things.
“We're up to date on new trends,” Saucier said. “We think alike, that helps the business when we can think the same way.”
The owners also are open to feedback from clients, they said.
“We're open to new ideas from our customers,” Cecil said. “They're the boss when they sit in the chair.”
Studio 21 is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The owners welcome male and female customers. The salon presently is seeking the opportunity to offer a massage therapist. Anyone with experience and interested in this position is asked to contact the salon owners at 803-872-4045.
