Five years ago this week, Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It was the deadliest and costliest natural disaster in the country's history and the impact was felt in Chester County.
Katrina devastated communities from Central Florida all the way to Texas, but the most severe damage was inflicted on New Orleans when there was a catastrophic failure of the levee system, causing wide-spread flooding. That sent evacuees scattering in all directions, including towards Chester.
