Tickets are still available but are going fast for the fourth annual Lewisville High School Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet.

Going into the hall this year will be former multi-sport coach Floyd Drum, former athletes Jimmy Overby, Dennis Robinson and Melanie Harris-Gallman, the competitive cheer teams from 1990 to 1993 and David McCain, who will receive the “Once a Lion, Always a Lion” honor.

Drum spent more than 20 years at the school and guided a number of different teams to success. He won region titles as head coach of the Lion football, softball and girls basketball teams. He was an assistant coach on four football teams that won the Class A state championship and spent several years as the school’s athletic director. Overby was a multi-sport standout and holds the special distinction of being the first quarterback in Lewisville football history when the program was founded in 1953. He would ultimately end up becoming an all-state player. Robinson, like Overby, was a decorated star in multiple sports and was a Lions quarterback, where he earned statewide Player of the Year honors. Harris-Gallman was on four competitive cheerleading teams that claimed state titles. Her team as a whole from that period (’90 to ’93), which enjoyed an unprecedented level of success in the state is also being inducted.

The “Once a Lion, Always a Lion” award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to Lewisville athletics but do not fit the normal induction criteria. McCain has been a member of the Friday football chain crew for more than 30 years.

The first class (which was inducted in 2014) had 10 inductees, but each subsequent class has had five. Selections are made by a panel consisting of community members, administration and school athletic personnel.

This year’s ceremony will be held February 25 at the Gateway Conference Center. Dinner will be served and former Clemson and NFL player (and Lewisville Hall of Famer) Mike Barber will serve as the guest speaker. Football Coach Will Mitchell asked that any Lewisville cheerleader from 1990 to 1993 contact him at 704-641-8709 or by email at wmitchell473@gmail.com. The contact information for those wishing to reserve a whole table, buy tickets or arrange for a sponsorship is the same. Tickets can also be purchased at the front office of the school.
