Technically, Zoe Mapp-Brown had a walk-off, pinch-hit home run on Tuesday, but really she was just adding an exclamation point.

The Chester softball team was already comfortably ahead of Fairfield Central when Mapp-Brown hit her bases-loaded blast, but her shot did end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule in the sixth inning. Chester took control of the game that would end with a 16-4 final score very early, scoring three in the first and four in the second for a 7-1 lead. The Lady Griffins hung around and made it an 8-4 game through five, but Chester brought things to an early end with an eight-spot in the sixth, including four on a single swing of Mapp-Brown’s bat.

Several Lady Cyclones had big nights at the plate, with the team pounding Lady Griffins pitching for 21 hits. Shena Halsey was 3-for-4 (including a home run and a double) and drove in three runs. Ja’Nautica Cohen hit a home run, was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs. Kristen Davis and Payton Townsend each had three hit nights.

On Wednesday, Chester went out of region to pick up an impressive 4-3 win over Nation Ford. On Thursday, Chester faced Indian Land with a chance to win the region and clinch a number one playoff seed but early errors put the team in the hole and they lost 16-9. The Lady Cyclones finished as runner-up in the region and will be a number two playoff seed.

The JV team also picked up a win Tuesday, knocking off Fairfield Central 10-6 to move to 5-1-1 on the year.
