Jobseekers have an opportunity later this month to meet with prospective employers looking for applicants for positions from entry-level to technical to professional throughout Chester, Lancaster and York counties and south Charlotte.
A job fair with at least 32 employers looking for job applicants will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Gateway Conference Center, 3200 Commerce Drive, in Richburg.
The 2014 Catawba Regional Job Fair will unite employers and jobseekers under one roof from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jobseekers can qualify for early 9 a.m. entry if they complete a SC Works workshop on “How to Work a Job Fair,” said Sharon Blackburn with SC Works Catawba. The workshop will be held at the Chester SC Works office as well as other locations. The workshop lasts half a day from 9 a.m. to noon, said Blackburn. The workshop will help people know how to prepare for a job fair, what to do during it and how to follow up, said Blackburn, but urged them to sign up for the workshop soon.
“They need to register for that workshop as soon as possible, because we're coming down to the wire and seats are filling up fast,” she said.
Prospective employees can register for the workshop by emailing Tonya Graham at  HYPERLINK "mailto:Tonya.graham@rescare.com"Tonya.graham@rescare.com or calling the Chester SC Works office at 803-385-1006.
Blackburn said the mission of S.C. Works Catawba is to put the residents of Chester,  Lancaster and York counties back to work. With offices in Chester,  Lancaster and Rock Hill, the organization strives to close the gap between employers and job seekers.
Blackburn encouraged local jobseekers to attend this free job fair.
“This is a great opportunity to meet a lot of employers at one time,” said Blackburn. She added that during last year's job fair, some people were hired on the spot.
Attendees should dress for an interview and bring as many copies of their resume as possible because 32 area employers will be on-site recruiting for 2,500 open job positions.
The Chester County Connector will offer transportation to the job fair with pick up at any Chester County residence at 9 a.m., and pick up and drop-off services at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. To schedule the Connector for pick up in your area, call Senior Services/Chester County Connector at 803-385-3838 ext. 30. Fees may be charged for this service.
